After living in Copenhagen for 2 years, I have to say that everything you said about it is true. Very relaxing and clean city. You can tell that people really enjoy their city and biking. Other cities can follow this example but it would take a lot of effort to change people’s mindset. How many years did Copenhagen take to become such a perfect city? I’m sure it was a slow process.

Many solutions have been offered to combat climate change: electric cars, more and better public transportation, bike use, etc. In an ideal world, we all would use bikes to go wherever we wanted to go. However, it’s not feasible everywhere. In the U.S. for example, even though several cities are bike-friendly, the truth is it’s not the norm. In Texas, where I live, the only city that’s more bike-friendly is Austin and only in certain areas like downtown.
Sadly, here we all need a car since public transportation is negligible. I think that would be the very first step for a change.
I don’t know how long the distances are in Copenhagen, but they can be really long in the U.S. Many people have to commute for long miles every day.

Thanks for your sharing and concern. MRT using electricity is the leading solution for long-distance. MRT network in China is a useful model for America. America spends too much money on the military everywhere. May not have the remaining fund for the MRT network. Choose someone who cares about climate change and transport convenience for the citizen. Singaporean do not need to buy a car, can go to work by MRT. Copenhagen also uses MRT for the outside town.
America has a big land, the most concern of climate change impact is flooding, high heat wave or extreme cold temperature in New York City. Citizens of the city have to decide your city modeling in the future. Get your local government to support your dream.

Although I can’t fault your arithmetic with the potential for savings on CHGs, you don’t give a reference for your claim: “reduction of Greenhouse gas emissions calculated at 90,000 Tons per year, with a population of 1.2 million”, meaning that you just want the reader to take your word for it.
In the section on the comparisons of Bogota and Copenhagen, I would question your choice of a comparative city to Copenhagen. I live in the UK in the midlands, near the town of Milton Keynes, which was designed from the bottom-up to be a car-friendly town. It has beautiful, wide-open green spaces and lots and lots of trees; it looks nothing like Bogota and in many respects, looks far more interesting and inviting than Copenhagen (from the picture above, anyway). On top of that, you pose four questions, but then answer it yourself! How is that not a polemic?
I think that when we are really passionate about something, we must be careful to guard our passions and present our best arguments in a fair and balanced manner, citing references whenever possible, and giving the visitor every chance to fall in love with our ideas. Can a car drive one year with 300 liters per year? The attached file is the data source of gas emission reduction for Copenhagen. From 2005 to 2017, gas emission dropped is 1.37 million tons. One year is average at 97,857 Tons. Good teaching to me, I will attach a data source link for verifying my data.

England can build many parks with billion of trees to combat climate change. With building parks as the solution is helping to cool your localized area only, the bad thing is you are still releasing carbon dioxide to the global. This solution is not solving greenhouse emissions, and global warming will hit every country, including England.
My conclusion does not say that another solution will not work. I know humans prefer the freedom to choose. Frankly speaking, zero-emissions to air is the only best solution.

You present an overwhelmingly convincing argument for cities to transition to a Copenhagen-like model based on maximum use of bikes and I guess that would include both push bikes and electric bikes. Just a few observations of issues that would need to be handled in navigating such a transition.
A mixture of bikes with cars with pedestrians is hazardous. So is a mix of just bikes and pedestrians as collisions still happen and can be fatal. A safe environment for users of all transport types is best provided when maximum separation is achieved between the routes used by each.
I found the model adopted in many Dutch cities to work extremely well. The bike lanes have a completely separate network from cars which are forced to drive around the outsides rather than through areas and in most cases the bike lanes have more direct routes to where you need to get. This means as a bike rider you have a completely different experience of the city than you do if you drive into it. That is something cities can achieve when they are designed from scratch that way.
Some European cities have experienced an explosion of rental electric bike services. You sign up with an app that lets you locate a bike nearby that someone else recently dropped off. It means that electric bikes are everywhere cluttering up sidewalks etc and are a major irritation and obstacle for other sidewalk users particularly persons with disabilities. The conclusion here is that cities need to plan these transitions carefully.
Another observation is that two wheels is not going to work safely for everyone. There will have to be some three or even four wheel variants. They can be equally lightweight and efficient.

Dutch is the number one bikes country in the world with a large number of cyclist networks. I am fully aware of this information. Which country to achieve zero-emission before 2025 is either Dutch or Danes only.
